Mashata’s ‘goodbye hug’ to Sundowns’ Rulani Mokwena

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena and fans of the football club paid their respect to their announcer DJ Peter “Mashata” Mabuse this weekend.

SUNDOWNS SUPPORTERS: ‘IT’S HARD WITHOUT HIM’


 

The football club, Mamelodi Sundowns shared a video of DJ Peter “Mashata” Mabuse on X on Sunday, 28 April.

“Mamelodi Sundowns pays tribute to our beloved friend and MC, Peter ‘Mashata’ Mabuse. Forever Yellow! Robala Ka Kgotso Mashata. The Msindo Maker,” they captioned the video.

“There are very few people in life who are genuine and when they love something, they love it genuinely, Peter Mashata was that guy,” says one supporter.

Rulani Mokwena who is the coach of the football club reveals that the comedian asked him for a hug at their last interaction.

“There was a joke that we shared between the two of us and he said coach. I know everyone says you are not allowed to give hugs anymore. But can you give me a hug please? And my response was, sure they’re for free, I’ll give you one. Little did I know it was a hug of saying goodbye.”

PETER MASHATA: LAID TO REST
The Mamelodi Sundowns announcer and comedian Peter Mashata’s funeral service will be held on Sunday at the Akasia Community Hall from 08:00.

Sunday World reports that Mamelodi Sundowns also conveyed their condolences to Mashata this past week.

“The chairman, the Motsepe family, the board of directors, technical team, players, management, staff, supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns FC and the entire Yellow Nation express their deepest condolences to the family and friends as we mourn the loss of the multi-talented Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, who served as an announcer at the Mamelodi Sundowns games.”

“We pray that the Almighty comforts and strengthens the Mabuse family, his fans, friends, and colleagues in the entertainment industry. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and every one that was touched by his talent, entertainment, and laughter. Robala Ka Kgotso Mashata – The Msindo Maker.”

Mashata’s employer, TUT also paid tribute to him in a statement:

“Mabuse, has been a loyal employee of TUT where he served as a Residence Advisor for both Pretoria and Ga-Rankuwa Campuses. His varied community engagement activities, e.g. as MC and as stadium announcer at Mamelodi Sundowns home matches, had a positive impact on society beyond the gates of the University.”
