Hawks Arrest Shepherd Bushiri And Her Wife Mary
Leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church (ECGC) Prophet Shepherd Bushiri on Tuesday handed himself to the Hawks after his wife was arrested earlier. Bushiri’s spokesperson Ephraim Nyondo confirmed that the ECG Church leader and his wife Mary, are in police custody.He said Prophet Shepherd Bushiri had been notified by the Hawks that he was wanted in connection with an issue concerning a certain company called Rising Estate. Nyondo said while Bushiri was preparing with his lawyers to go to the Hawk’s offices by 11 am his wife was arrested before the appointment.Nyondo said “The Hawks informed lawyers of our leaders, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and Prophetess Mary Bushiri, late Monday afternoon that they (Hawks) are requesting the couple to go to their office by 11am accompanied by their lawyers to discuss an issue concerning a certain investment pertaining to certain company called Rising Estate. We are told as the Prophet and lawyers were getting prepared for the 11am appointment, the Hawks went to their house before the 11am appointment and arrested the Prophet’s wife alone.

Bushiri’s lawyer Terrance Ntsako Baloyi also confirmed the news saying the prophet left in the morning from his frugal hotel in Rustenburg, Sparkling Waters Hotel to the Hawks office “to hand himself over.”

Baloyi said he could not discuss the issue any further as it is a police matter. He said: “Prophet Bushiri in the justice system of South Africa and he will abide by all that the law compels until all this war is done. As the matter is still currently under criminal investigation, we have been advised not to discuss this matter any further”.

The church has since encouraged its members to be committed in prayer.

The state’s case against Muzikayise Malephane, accused of the murder of Tshegofatso Pule, has been postponed to allow for the accused to make representations.

The 31-year-old is accused of killing Pule in June, while she was eight months pregnant.

He made a brief appearance in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday for the pre-trial following a previous postponement.
His lawyer, advocate Johlene Muir informed the court that she had received outstanding documents from the state on Tuesday morning and further requested a postponement to consult with the accused who would like to make representations to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

“We cannot pre-empt, as the State, as to what their representations will entail.

“We will await them to submit those representations and that is the only time where we will have insight as to what they entail,” Gauteng NPA Spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane told the media outside court.“I am not sure on which angle he is going to come from, but as to whether they will be successful or not, it is the DPP’s decision,” he added.

Pule was found stabbed and hanged in a veld in Roodepoort in June. She was last seen on June 4.

News24 earlier reported that the 28-year-old beautician had gone to see her boyfriend in Florida; she reportedly had an argument with him and he subsequently called a taxi for her.

Pule’s Uncle told the Sunday Times that police showed them CCTV footage of Pule leaving in a grey Jeep without her boyfriend.

The beautician was eight months pregnant at the time of her murder, sparking increased outrage across the country, as the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide claimed another life.

Pule was buried on 11 June. Malephane was due back in court on 19 November.

Without mentioning names the Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said four people including a pastor between the ages of 25 and 39 have been arrested for alleged involvement in fraud and money laundering worth R102 million.

They were supposed to go to the Hawks office at 11:00am but the ECG church spokesperson said the Hawks came before that time and arrested the couple while Bushiri was getting ready to go to the office of the Hawks.

The spokesperson said that the information he got about the case was about a certain investment company called Rising Estate, said the spokesperson Ephraim Nyondo.

Nyondo confirmed that Bushiri infact handed himself to the Hawks after his wife’s arrest. Bushiri said that he believes in the justice system of the country he will abide by the law. The matter is still under criminal investigation more information will be made available, said Nyondo.
