DR NANDIPHA MAGUDUMANA ASSAULTED IN PRISON, SAYS LAWYER
During an interview with eNCA reporter Mokolo Moloto, Dr Magudumana’s lawyer said he has been in contact with his client and can confirm that she has been having some trouble with some of her cellmates in Bizzah Makhate Correctional Centre in Kroonstad.

“This morning whilst I was attending a conference, I received news that my client had been assaulted by a fellow inmate, Advocate Machini Motloung said in the interview.

Motloung shared that he also received a direct call from Magudumana and was given more details regarding the matter. “She was indeed assaulted apparently by two inmates, one being a sangoma and the other being a mentally challenged inmate,” he added.

Magudumana was arrested in April last year after she was caught in Tanzania while on the run with her notorious boyfriend Thabo Bester. Motloung has also opened up about his concerns for Magudumana’s safety in prison.

“This has been building up. Part of this is when she is praying and singing with her fellow inmates. There seems to be tension brewing specifically with her and the sangoma.

MORE ABOUT THE ARRESTED DOCTOR’S SAFETY BEHIND BARS
This is not the first time Dr Nandipha Magudumana has allegedly been mistreated in prison. In October last year, advocate Machini Motloung said she was allegedly poisoned in prison. This he revealed when Magudumana didn’t make it for her court appearance.

During his recent interview, Motloung said due the the poor safety conditions Magudumana finds herself in, a complaint will need to be filed with the Human Rights Commission. “The conditions she is living under do not provide the necessary protection and she is exposed. Her safety is of serious concern currently,” the lawyer said.

Thabo Bester and Magudumana are expected to be back in court on 5 June. They will be joined by Magudumana’s father Zolile Cornelius Sekeleni as well as the other six co-accused implicated in the case.
