Details of MC, DJ and businessman Peter “Mashata” Mabuse’s memorial and funeral services have been announced.
The Mamelodi Sundowns stadium announcer was shot and killed in a hail of bullets in Soshanguve, northwest of Pretoria, in the early hours of Sunday, 21 April. He was returning from a gig at Epozini Lifestyle situated in the same township.
MEMORIAL AND FUNERAL SERVICE DETAILS
Mashata’s life will be honoured in a memorial service on Thursday, 25 April. The service will take place at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Pretoria West Campus from 14:00 to 18:00.
On the same day, a tribute concert will be held in the evening at Emperors Palace. The proceeds from the show — organised by Paul Mtirara, Wilson B Nkosi, DJ Young and Mashabela – are expected to be handed over to the Mabuse family.
In addition to the memorial service and concert, flowers can be dropped off at his family’s home in Block U, on Rina Street in Mabopane, from 14:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, 27 April. The soul music DJ’s funeral service will be held the following day at the Akasia Community Hall from 08:00.
MASHATA’S MOTHER WANTS JUSTICE TO BE SERVED
Speaking to speaking when SABC News on Tuesday, Mashata’s mother – Rebecca Mabuse – called for justice.
“It’s still a question mark to me, that he is not gone, maybe he’s around. It is so painful,” she said, before calling for justice.
“Let it not just be interviews, let it not a visit of the premier to my house or the councillor to my house. Let it be that justice is served.”
The 62-year-old said that Mashata was her only child. Also known as “The Noisemaker” or “Msindo Maker”, the soul music DJ had one adoptive child.
“He was always a smiley boy… he was very supportive. I’ve got two hands, it’s like one of my hands has been ripped off,” the heartbroken mother explained.
TUT PAYS TRIBUTE
Mashata’s employer, TUT, paid tribute to him in a statement on Monday.
“Mabuse, has been a loyal employee of TUT where he served as a Residence Advisor for both Pretoria and Ga-Rankuwa Campuses. His varied community engagement activities – e.g. as MC and as Stadium Announcer at Mamelodi Sundowns home matches – had a positive impact on society beyond the gates of the University.”
The university said it was providing the Mabuse family, friends, colleagues and students with as much support as it can at this difficult time.
“The family should be afforded the space and the time to process their great loss, and to honour the memory of the deceased with dignity.
“The University calls upon the public, including the media, to exercise restraint and sensitivity towards the family at this time of grief.
