INSIDE ANGELA SITHOLE AND ANGA MAKUBALO’S ROLES
Entertainment commentator Mlu reports that Smart Casual premiered on Netflix on Friday, 12 April.
The film stars Anga Makubalo, Angela Sithole, Terrence Ngwila, Mandisa Constable and Nyaniso Dzedze.
Other South African acts include Nomsa Twala and hip-hop dance pioneer, Kudzai Mureriwa.
Bizcommunity reports that Smart Casual is set in Johannesburg and captures the various faces of this bustling economic hub, where the spirit and drive of the original gold diggers lives on, and where everything seems possible.
Smart Casuals is an honest exploration of romantic relationships and their many permutations, set against the backdrop of Africa’s most cosmopolitan city.
“I have always preferred films that lean towards an authentic experience, over those that are fairytales,” says director Farisani.
“With Smart Casuals, we have attempted to create an authentic experience by finding a sense of transparency and vulnerability within ourselves, which we hope has been infused into the film’s DNA.”
BACKGROUND OF ‘SMART CASUAL’
Current Affairs reports that Smart Casual follows two couples who “travel equal and opposite paths in their search to find love.”
The first couple includes Taki, a mid-thirties photographer who is set on having casual flings until he meets Tumi, who turns his world upside down.
The second couple, Mahlatsi and Bheka, who’ve been in a 12-year relationship with two postponed weddings make a third attempt at tying the knot, but Mahlatsi is at a crossroads.
The South African romantic film is produced by Zwo Farisano together with Ndamu Farisano of Farisano creations.
