96-year-old Gogo scores a role on Muvhango

Gogo Tshinakaho Mananga has achieved her lifelong ambition of becoming an actor.

The 96-year-old resident of Tshedzani Village, Limpopo, will shortly make her acting debut on SABC2’s hit Venda soap opera Muvhango.

She’ll be playing Vho-Nyadzenga, a member of the royal family’s upper echelons who is her ancestor.

In the first scene, she unexpectedly comes on the throne and scares Lindelani by introducing herself.

She is Lindelani’s leader. She’s there to help Lindelani gain respectability as the sangoma Vho-Nyadzanga.

Vho-Nyadzanga and Lindelani’s relationship gets off to a shaky start because of the dominating factor of dread in both of their lives.

Lindelani’s family is shocked when she finally accepts her calling as the show progresses.

The gogo claimed that before she was cast as an extra on Muvhango during a location shot in Venda, she was live a normal life with her makoti and grandchildren.

She was a great fit for the role of Vho-Nyadzenda when the show was later casting.

Immediately after saying a prayer, I received a call from Muvhango offering me a part. I was thrilled,” she said.

Tshinakaho believes that her success proves that it is never too late to go for your goals.
