RIP: Gospel star has died

DEATH has struck in the gospel industry as the powerhouse and an engine of the Gospel awards called, Crown Gospel Music Awards died on Monday morning.

This dark cloud hung on the gospel industry had people in tears as the day began on Monday morning. There had been some reports on social media but it was unconfirmed yet and the Crown Gospel Awards Facebook page requested people to keep mum a bit since the children had not yet been informed.

The founder of Crown Gospel Music Awards, Mrs Zanele Mbokazi Nkambule took to the Facebook page of the Crowns and in a LIVE video, she announced that Sipho Kaleni has passed away.

He took his last breath around 6:00 this morning and has been sick for quite some time. Mbokazi stated that Kaleni has been in and out of hospital since April this year and has had many operations. However, there were high hopes that he will recover and all gets well.

Mbokazi, as she was seen in the video, was very much emotional and could barely hold her tears as she addressed the gospel nation on these sad news.

Kaleni played a vital role in the Crown Gospel Music Awards and was mostly seen going to the stage with Zanele Mbokazi on the Crown Awards to hand over the most important award of the night, the Gospel Song of the year.

You will remember him wearing his signature black cap and standing alongside Mbokazi to announce the winner.

He was the engine of these awards and had a very crucial role at the World Gospel Powerhouse as a whole. Zanele revealed how difficult it was for the organisation to write such statement as Kaleni was the person who always was the one who wrote it.

Messages of condolences continued to pour in around celebrities and gospel musicians.

Details of his funeral and memorial service were not yet communicated.

May his soul rest in peace, gone but not forgotten.
