The 10th annual SA Hip Hop Awards (SAHHAs) were held on Friday night and aired on SABC 1. The ceremony this year was done remotely.
The program, hosted by Sol Phenduka, included performances by Big Zulu, Blxckie, Faith K, and 25K.
Following a successful year, Blxckie and Big Zulu were significant candidates for some of the night’s most prestigious accolades.
Apart from winning Song of the Year for his track Mali Eningi starring Riky Rick and Intaba Yase Dubai, Big Zulu also took home six other accolades. In the history of the awards, no artist has ever matched this haul.
A-Reece, on the other hand, received two awards: Lyricist of the Year and Best Mixtape.
Skhanda World received the title for Best Local Brand, which is presented to the finest South African apparel brand that is only focused on hip hop.
Skhanda World is a hip hop collective led by artist K.O and his manager Tsholo that has had a successful year.
As the band’s popularity grew this year, they aggressively and effectively promoted its merchandise.
Aside from K.O, the group also includes Loki, Roiii, Ma-E, Just Bheki, and DJ Mr X.
Watkin Tudor Jones (better known as Ninja) received the night’s Honorary Award, while Towdee Mac’s You & Hip-hop on You FM was named Best Radio Show.
Zoocci Coke Dope was named Producer of the Year for his outstanding work on Priddy Ugly’s SOIL. Boity, a rapper and media personality, was named Best Female.
Ms Cosmo, a 5FM DJ, was named DJ of the Year, beating out Courtnae Paul, DJ PH, DJ Speedsta, and DJ Venom.
