The sister of one of the accused murder suspects in the Senzo Meyiwa case, Nqobile Maphisa has allegedly taken her life, ZiMoja recently reported.
The sister of accused number 3 in Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial was reported to have passed away on Wednesday morning after taking rat poison. She is said to have died at the age of 27.
According to the publication, Mthokozisi Maphisa’s other sister Sinqobile has dismissed allegations that Nqobile was poisoned to silence her.
“We don’t have all the details on what made her decide to kill herself and her unborn baby. Nqobile was seven months pregnant. She seemed happy that she was going to become a mother herself. We know this has nothing to do with our brother or Senzo Meyiwa’s case,” Sinqobile was quoted as saying.
Sinqobile has reportedly expressed that she is still struggling to come to terms of her sister’s death. “The pain hits straight to my heart because I never expected this from her,” Sinqobile was quoted as saying.
Plans to get Nqobile’s body back to KwaZulu-Natal from Johannesburg were reported to be already in motion. Details for Nqobile’s burial have not yet been revealed.
Mthokoziseni Maphisa and the other accused, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, and Fisokuhle Ntuli are still standing trial for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa. The late soccer player was on 26 October 2014 at just 27 years old.
The five men face several charges including premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a license, and possession of ammunition.
“I’m currently in hiding after I received threats following me doing interviews with the media on my brother’s wrongful arrest,” Sinqobile was quoted as saying.
