WATCH: Actress Luyanda Zwane weeps as she cuts dreads for role

Rising star Luyanda Zwane has shared a video of her hairstylist cutting her dreadlocks for a TV role.

The Sibongile and Dlamini star Luyanda Zwane took to her Instagram to share a video of her hairstylist cutting her dreadlocks for a TV role.

Zwane, who is famously known for her starring role as the title character in Sibongile and The Dlaminis cut her dreads for the character.

Her domestic worker character, Sibongile, has short, afro hair though she doesn’t mention which character she was preparing for in the video.

She’s also secured roles in Showmax’s Outlaws, Netflix’s Miseducation and BET’s Redemption.

The breakout star revealed to Sowetan that she first met her passion for acting in high school. She was deeply involved in the world of dramatic arts.

Her first TV role was Lelo in Durban Gen shortly after completing matric. This was followed by Redemption and Sibongile and The Dlaminis.

The KwaZulu-Natal-born actress also debuted on Shaka Ilembe as Vundlazi in 2023.


 

 

The actress Luyanda Zwane scored the leading role in Mzansi Wethu’s first telenovela, Sibongile and The Dlaminis.

The show follows the journey of Sibongile Mbambo played by Zwane. Sibongile is an innocent rural young woman forced to leave her family and dreams behind.

In the telenovela, she becomes a domestic worker in the lavish mansion of the affluent Dlamini family and gets involved with their son.

The show is set in the small town of Ixopo in KwaZulu-Natal and promises to explore timeless themes of love, sacrifice, ambition, and familial bonds.

The show also draws inspiration from the Zambian tale of Zuba and the Solalas. It also stars Zodumo Shange, Vuyo Biyela, Ayanda Borotho and many more.

The Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA) February 2024 figures reveal that the show is the second most-watched TV show on DStv.
