American singer Usher Raymond has candidly opened up about his past relationship to girl group TLC’s lead singer Chilli.
USHER OPENS UP ABOUT HIS RELATIONSHIP TO TLC’S CHILLI
On Thursday, 15 February Usher told media outlet that he popped the question to the TLC member during their three-year relationship, which lasted from 2001 until 2004.
The 2024 Super Bowl halftime show alum shared how he was always Chilli’s number 1 fan.
“If I am to be honest, I was her No. 1 fan, and she was my superstar”, Usher shared.
When talking about the Waterfalls singer, who is seven years older than him, Usher shares how at eight years old he was in awe of the singer so much so that he put up her poster on his bedroom wall.
“At the age of 8, I put her poster on my wall and said, ‘Man that girl is so beautiful. One day I’m going to meet her,’”, the R&B singer recalls.
In the interview with People, Usher further reveals that he proposed to Chill, but was met with a “NO”.
“I wanted to marry her. I proposed and she told me no”.
‘I WENT THROUGH A GREAT DEAL OF PAIN’
After his proposal was turned down, Usher shares how he went through a great deal of pain and struggled with trusting woman.
“I went through a great deal of pain after that, not trusting women or wanting to open up”.
Usher Raymond continued: “We were missing each other. I really did want to have a different type of relationship where she was there with me, and she couldn’t be. She didn’t believe that I was actually in love with her as much as I was”.
Chilli also echoes the same sentiments in a 2023 interview with People, reiterating how different they were.
We definitely had some chemistry. But working chemistry does not mean it works in your personal life. If we were working, it was great. But outside of that, we’re so different”, Chill shared.
She continued: ” It looked great, but in real life … he knew he had to be a certain way with me and he couldn’t”.
