AKA’s father rubbishes claims he pushed Anele Tembe

Tony Forbes, the father of late Mzansi rapper, AKA has spoken out for the first time on his son’s relationship with his fiance, Anele “Nelli” Tembe, following both their tragic deaths…

Almost a year ago, the rapper, real name Kiernan Forbes was shot and killed by hired hitmen in Durban. In 2021, Tembe fell to her death off the tenth floor of a Cape Town hotel.

Now, Tony is lifting the lid on their volatile relationship and allegations his son had something to do with Anele’s death.

On 11 April 2021, Anele Tembe died after she fell off the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Loop Street, Cape Town. At the time, Tembe was accompanying AKA to a gig in the city.

While AKA claimed his fiancee’s death was a result of her suicide, he faced ongoing scrutiny in the months that followed. This followed the leaks of viral videos of their volatile and violent arguments during their relationship.

After AKA’s death on 10 February, a leaked letter to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed how the Tembe family suspected the rapper had allegedly pushed her off the hotel balcony.

The letter – from the family’s attorneys – also shared their beliefs of what they believed happened during and after Nelli’s fatal fall. This included allegations that AKA ignored Nelli, who was still alive for 20 minutes after the fall and cleaned up the blood in the hotel room, possibly concealing an altercation.

But AKA’s dad, Tony Forbes, has rubbished the speculation. Speaking on the Bakoe Entertainment podcast, he said of his son: “We never doubted Kiernan…He did not push her. He had his faults, but he was not a murderer”.

He continued: “He committed that he wanted her as his why, so why would he murder her two weeks later?”
