AKA and Sim Dope, real names Kiernan Forbes and Simphiwe Gumede, shared more than just a close friendship – they also shared a birthday!
The “birthday twins” were both born on the same day in the same year – 28 January 1988.
AKA AND CHILDHOOD BESTIE CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS
On Instagram, AKA’s friend Don Design remembered him with a touching tribute on his 36th birthday.
The DJ and influencer also revealed that Kiernan’s childhood friend Sim Dope was also celebrating his birthday.
Forbes and Gumede struck up a friendship while attending the same high school, St Johns in Johannesburg, in the early 2000s. AKA even named a song after his friend off his 2014 album Levels.
Simphiwe – the son of billionaire businessman Rober Gumede – revealed that AKA had given him his nickname when he made the school’s first rugby team.
Speaking at the rapper’s funeral last year, he said: “I was sitting there, and he says to me, ‘Sim, now you’re a boet, bru, like your boet at school.’
“So we laughed and he said, ‘But you can’t go on Saturday and just be Simphiwe. I mean, that’s not dangerous.’ So I said to him, ‘You’re the lover boy who writes love letters [so you give me a name].’ So he says, ‘From now on, you’re Sim Dope.’”
TONY FORBES PERFORMS ‘SIM DOPE’ TRACK
Meanwhile, AKA’s father, Tony Forbes posted a rendition of himself performing Sim Dope.
