Musa Keys admits AKA shaped his music at Grammy send-off

Musa Keys, the Amapiano sensation heading to the Grammys for his hit with Davido, Unavailable, had a blast at his send-off party in Sandton’s Zioux Restaurant.

The Limpopo-born artist, up for Best African Music Performance with Davido, was over the moon to the point that, according to SowetanLIVE, he even contemplated having a sip of something stronger to celebrate – quite a departure from his usual no-alcohol stance.

Big names like Zakes Bantwini, Anele Mdoda, and Boity Thulo joined the festivities to celebrate Musa Keys’ for getting his Grammy nod.

HE ALWAYS BELIEVED HE WOULD GET A GRAMMY
The former SMag cover star shared his journey with SowetanLIVE, expressing his joy and sticking to his long-standing belief in a Grammy win, now focusing on staying a nominee.

“A Grammy is something I’ve manifested for the longest of times,” he said to SowetanLIVE.

“Even if you go back to my past interviews I’ve done maybe two or three years ago, you will hear me consistently say ‘I’m gonna get a Grammy, I’m gonna get a Grammy’. Now that I’m here, my next job is to work hard to remain a Grammy nominee.”

At the event, Keys spilled some tea about teaming up with an American stylist for the upcoming Grammy night, promising a look that’s ‘super crazy and amazing.’ Amid the celebration, he also dropped a sweet declaration of love for Nicole, his girlfriend, drawing cheers from the crowd.

MUSA KEYS GIVES A TRIBUTE TO AKA
In a touching tribute, Keys gave credit to the late AKA for shaping his music. Remembering AKA’s words about the ‘delicious’ quality of his music, Musa shared how AKA’s influence continues to drive his sound. Despite AKA’s absence, Musa spoke proudly about the inspiration he draws from the late rapper.

“One thing that AKA said to me that I really took to heart, when we were chilling – he said ’you know boy why I love your music, it sounds delicious.’”

“He said he loved my music because it is a flavour of everything. There is emotion, hype and hardness. I will keep that close to my heart,” he told Sunday World.

Beyond the Grammy excitement, Musa Keys hinted at a new project post-Grammys, stepping into what he called his ‘bad boy era.’ With collaborations featuring J something, Felo, and Ruger, a Nigerian artist, Musa Keys teased an upcoming musical journey beyond his Amapiano roots.
