It’s been just over four years since the tragic drowning of Parktown Boys learner Enoch Mpianzi during a school camp. Now media personality Anele Mdoda is furiously speaking out after it happened to another young child…
Latoya Temilton – of Laerskool Queenswood – died during a school leadership outing over the weekend.
To make matters worse, Latoya’s family claims the school hid the Grade 7 pupil’s accident from them until she was due to return home.
Anele and the deceased’s family are pleading with the Department of Education to ensure safety during official school trips and camps.
ANELE MDODA: ‘WE HAVE NOT LEARNED ANYTHING’
Taking to her X account, Anele Mdoda spoke out about the young girl’s drowning.
The 947 presenter – who is mom to eight-year-old Alakhe – claimed Letoya’s passing mirrored the tragic death of Enoch Mpianzi.
She tweeted, “Another child has drowned at school camp. After Enoch, have we not learned anything. This is rubbish. No man”.
Enoch – a Grade 8 Parktown Boys High student – drowned during a school orientation camp at the Nyati Bush and River Break Lodge on 15 January 2020.
According to The Citizen, he was swept away in the Crocodile River, near Brits in the North West.
Following the tragedy, Parktown Boys principal Malcolm Williams was dismissed after he was found guilty of two counts of misconduct relating to the incident.
A year later, he was reinstated.
DEMANDING ANSWERS
According to Latoya Temilton’s family, they only received news of her passing less than an hour before she was expected to return home.
Her sister Palesa told Newzroom Afrika that the school Principal told them via phone that the girl had knocked her head on the pool’s edge. He claimed that EMS was tending to Latoya and promised to provide an update.
After “ignoring” the family’s calls, they were finally told that Letoya had died.
