The death of Mbongeni Ngema was announced via a statement which was shared on social media on Wednesday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother, father, husband, and patriot Mbongeni Ngema… Ngema was killed in a head-on car accident while returning from attending a funeral in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape this evening. He was a passenger in the vehicle,” the statememt read.

According to TshisaLIVE, the Eastern Cape police revealed that they were investigating a case of culpable homicide following an accident that occurred at about 4.30 pm, allegedly involving a white Renault sedan and a truck, in the Mbizana area.

 

 

Netizens were left in their feelings after seeing a video showing the late Sarafina! composer bidding farewell to his friend at a funeral. Standing in front of the funeral service, Ngema could be heard saying: “Part of my life is gone with her.” Netizens have since taken to the comment section and expressed their sorrow after hearing Ngema’s heart-wrenching speech to his late friend.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape Department of Health has confirmed that Ngema’s body has been released to his family after an autopsy was concluded earlier this week, ZiMoja reported.
