Lynn Forbes, mother of late rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, spilled the tea on AKA and Cassper Nyovest’s legendary feud in a recent interview with SA Hip Hop Mag via The Episode Podcast, insisting it was as real as it gets.
The late rapper AKA and Cassper had a South African hip hop rivalry that lasted years, ending tragically with Supa Mega’s passing.
The duo didn’t hold back, serving fans with a constant online jab fest. Lynn Forbes, AKA’s mom, reflects on the tumultuous beef in her chat with the show hosts, Mr. Nyamz and The Cool, shedding light on its authenticity. After all it was rumoured that their feud was for “chasing clout”.
WHAT ARE HER THOUGHTS ON THEIR FEUD?
“I think it was real (the beef) because I will tell you, Kiernan would talk to me, and if it wasn’t real I would’ve picked it up,” Forbes reveals, dismissing any “clout” speculations.
She admits being in the dark about the beef’s nitty-gritty, explaining, “I don’t know the ins and outs of it, I don’t even know. Somebody asked me a couple of days ago, “how did it start?””
“However, I lack knowledge about it. Keep in mind that I’m the mom, and you guys are boys; you don’t disclose everything to your mother.”
HOW DID NYOVEST’S BEEF WITH AKA START?
Months after AKA’s passing, Cassper spoke on the history of the long standing beef on L-Tido’s podcast, describing it as his only “real beef.”
“So the real beef started because of a song. It was cos of ‘Gusheshe’… I have three songs with Kiernan, we recorded it, but he never used any of it.”
“Then one time they were making a song, and I wanted to be on it. I wasn’t big enough to be on the song so they chose Kiernan…”
“We were chilling, smoking outside and I said to him, ‘I wanna be the greatest, biggest. ‘I’ve studied you, I’ve studied HHP, I wanna be bigger and better than all of you guys’. I feel like that’s what set it off,” he revealed.
“I think that’s the only real beef I ever had,” he said. “Everyone else is miscommunication, things that could be fixed. The Kiernan thing was bad, yoh!”
According to Nyovest, his fallout with AKA significantly impacted his thoughts and emotions, even upon waking up. AKA used to be “the first thing I think about when I wake up” even before he thought of his girlfriend.
