It’s been a busy year for a number of South African or SA celebrities, but for a handful of other stars, it’s been a relatively quiet 2023.
From the rise of the likes of Tyla, to seeing everpresents such as Bonang and Trevor Noah continuing to conquer the globe, it’s been an amazing year for South African talent. However, on the other end of the spectrum, it has been a relatively quiet year for a few of our biggest stars for a variety of reasons. Whether they were working on new material in the background, or simply taking a break between gigs, here are a few local stars who enjoyed a noise-free 2023.
Durban-born muso, Shekhinah enjoyed a relatively trouble-free 2023 and was not a frequent mention in much of the country’s media. She ended the year on a high note as she headlined the Hey Neighbour Festival at the end of December 2023 and has teased new music too. 2024 could most certainly be a busier year for the local songbird!
DJ Ankletap
After departing from YFM to take on a new venture at North-West station, YouFM, DJ Ankle Tap has been a relatively quieter figure among SA celebrities Having previously spoken of the need to nurture his mental health. A quieter 2023 will likely have done him well.
MORE UNDER-THE-RADAR SA TALENT
Katlego Danke
Aside from a crazy rumour at the beginning of this year, Katlego Danke has been among one of the quieter SA celebrities in 2023. While the need to not fuel unfounded rumours might have been a factor, the actress and entrepreneur has likely been preparing for her next role following the end of Gomora on television.
