Oprah Winfrey passes ‘talk show baton’ to Sherri Shepherd

Last week, while appearing on the Sherri Shepherd Show as a guest, Oprah Winfrey told Sherri Shepherd that she is “passing the baton to her”.

‘WHAT AN HONOUR’
While speaking to People magazine at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday, 16 December, Sherri expressed how emotional Oprah’s statement made her feel.

She admitted, “I bawled my eyeballs out. They were swollen all night the day she came”

Sherri continued by noting how appearing on the legendary talk show hosts show, got her through a lot in life.

“It’s surreal because to be on her show at 23 years old and dream about, ‘Could I do what she does?’ She got me through a lot of stuff”, Sherri Shepherd shared.

Despite the pressure that comes with Oprah’s compliment, Sherri shared that she is very honoured.

“… So her saying, ‘I’m passing it to you.’ What an honour,” Shepherd added. “A lot of pressure, but what an honour”.

Sherri Shepherd received four Emmy nominations for The Sherri Shepherd Show on Saturday.

The talk show host also noted that interviewing Oprah was a full circle” moment for her, after turning the iconic talk show host down for so many years as she struggled with personal issues.

“I was in a physically abusive relationship. My mom was dying from diabetic complications, I had a family member on drugs I was taking care of. I hung on to Oprah for dear life. And when I was on that show, I just said, ‘What if?’ … I hope that I am for someone the way she was for me. So, it was absolutely amazing”, Sherri noted.
