South African Springboks supporters are reminding President Cyril Ramaphosa of his promise of a public holiday if the national team wins the Rugby World Cup next weekend.
The boys in green and gold will face off against New Zealand’s All Blacks in the competition’s finals on Saturday, 28 October.
The highly anticipated game will take place at the Stade De France.
SPRINGBOKS FANS DEMAND PUBLIC HOLIDAY – ON MONDAY!
Following the Springboks’ semi-final win against England this weekend, South Africans quickly reminded President Ramaphosa of his words.
But the team supporters want Cyril to implement the public holiday on Monday, 30 October, essentially making it a long weekend.According to TimesLive, he said in an address: “South Africans are revelling in this incredible success that our boys have achieved in Paris. Many of them felt we should declare today [Monday] a public holiday, and I declined, and I said we will consider that when we win the final — at which I will be present.”
Last weekend, the office of the presidency posted a clip of an excited Cyril Ramaphosa in a telephone conversation with Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber.
In it, he wished the team well for the remainder of the Rugby World Cup. He said: “By the way, I’m coming to the final. I expect to lift the trophy when I come to Paris. I’ve already booked my ticket; I will be at the final”.
