Known to many South African TV lovers as Noluntu – her breakout character on Generations – and Goodness, whom she played on Mzansi Magic’s defunct drama series The Queen, Zenande Mfenyana is no stranger to the small screen. After her hiatus, the actress is back. She tells SowetanLIVE that she has bagged the character of Nolwazi “Nono” Mathebula on the new action-packed drama, Mother of All. The show premiered on e.tv’s eVod platform this week
The drama series focuses on Zenande’s character, who walks out of prison resolving to be an exemplary daughter to her religious mother. She is also determined to be an amazing mother to her celebrity daughter and become a model citizen through gainful employment. Then, even when both her mother and daughter reject her, and the South African job market proves to be just as unforgiving, Nono remains steadfast in her resolutions.
“I was stunned when I was briefed on what playing Nono would entail,” said Mfenyana. One thing I can reveal is, I did all the stunts myself. I went through weeks of martial arts training to perfectly do justice to Nono’s storyline. As a fast learner, it was easy for me to adapt to the type of training required for this role and I really hope viewers love her. Zenani told the publication that she did not have much time to prepare.
“We started shooting the show three days after I got the role. I had to fly my helper, daughter and myself to Durban to be on set,” she said.
I had zero time to prepare but luckily being a trained artist, I just knew what I had to do when I immediately got on set since we were only given three months to finish shooting the first season.
