South African Grammy award-winning artist Nomcebo Zikode recently released a new single Inkanyezi under her newly founded record label Emazulwini Productions.
Nomcebo, Zakes Bantwini, and Wouter Kellerman won the Best Global Music Performance award for their collaboration Bayethe at the 65th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
The singer told the publication Inkanyezi was inspired by the love her husband Selwyn Fraser has for her. She said her hubby, who’s also her manager, has always been by her side.
People resonate with your songs, has this always been an intention of yours that although we dance we will reflect?
We all go through things in life and we all need someone to make us feel better so, yes, it has always been my intention as most of my music is from my past life experiences and what I see other people go through.
At the heart of it, what keeps you motivated to make music?
Music has always been a thing at home when I was still growing up and I’ve always wanted to do music ever since I found out that God has given me a precious gift that is my voice. So I can say I just want to embrace this precious gift.
Are you planning to release an album any time soon?
Yes but before we release the full project I’m still going to release a few singles because I have more music that I want people to feast on.
How is life as an independent artist, and what are you most grateful for since going independent and launching your own label? How is that new venture?
I won’t lie and say it’s simple. But all I can say is that if you are willing to go the extra mile to learn something, then it’s doable. So it has been a journey but so far everything is on point. One of the artists under Emazulwini Productions whose name is Sykes is currently one of the hottest artists in the country and we have more artists and music coming.
You are now a Grammy award-winning artist, how has your life changed? Before winning you were already recognized internationally, how has this helped your brand?
It has opened more doors for me and also worked as motivation to keep on making music.
