Popular South African Gqom artist and choreographer, Babes Wodumo is topping trends after she took a swipe at Gayton McKenzie after his sentiments about Mampintsha’s funeral.
@GumbiClifford said: “Should we translate for you? Stop using Mampintsha’s name for votes.”
Mandla Maphumulo – affectionately known as Mampintsha, died on 24 December 2022 after a stroke at Durdoc Hospital in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
Undoubtedly, he was a big name in the music industry with an illustrious career spanning years.
Of interest is the fact that the Big Nuz member had a hand in Babes Wodumo’s shot to fame after they met at West Ink Records. The two later tied the knot and shared a son.
While speaking at a funeral in Randfontein, Gayton Mckenzie dragged Mampintsha’s funeral and how the government reacted while comparing it with AKA’s funeral.
However, his comparison and sentiments have thrust him into the top trends. The now-viral video has been making rounds on social media and has gained thousands of comments and reactions.
In the backdrop of the now-viral video, Babes Wodumo took to X, formerly Twitter, to express her anger against Gayton for peddling his political agendas while using Mampintsha’s name.
Taking to X, Babes Wodumo posted: “Bazokhuluma ngawe nom ungasekho sthandwa sam ngoba befun ukufeza inhloso zabo. Kubuhlungu angfun ukuqamba amanga kodwa sizobekezela☹️☹️☹️ Mampintsha akulon igama lenu lokufuna amavoti.”
No doubt her response sparked mixed reactions as Mzansi quickly flooded X with their two cents. Some cautioned her to avoid social media wars that affect her mental health. On the other hand, some took a swipe at Gayton for his sentiments.
