South Africans will bid farewell to Oupa Johannes Mafanyana Seakamela’s daughter Zoleka Mandela this week, who passed away on Monday, 25 September after a long battle with cancer.
Here’s what you didn’t know about their relationship…The late activist Zoleka Mandela adored and loved her father Oupa Johannes Mafanyana Seakamela as she often talked about him and shared their photos on her social media accounts.
Mandela revealed on her social media accounts that her father Mafanyana Seakamela was a Pedi man, who was in a relationship with her late mother, Zindzi Mandela for a decade.
Mandela’s parents were never married and were lifelong friends.
The author also revealed that her parents were once in exile, lived in Brandfort, in the Free State and lived with her grandmother.
‘HIS ZOZO’
The author and activist also revealed that her father often called her Zozo, while she referred to him as her Pedi King. Her paternal grandfather gave her a pedi name; Makgotso, while her maternal grandfather named her, Zobuhle.
Her father was the first man to ever buy her sanitary towels, the first man to ever take her to a party, the first man who ever ride with her on a motorbike and the first man who ever kept her biggest secret and the first man who ever bailed her out.reports that the author Zoleka Mandela a prayer session was held at the Mandela family home in Soweto on Wednesday, 27 September from 6pm.
Mandela’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 28 at 3pm, also at the Mandela family home.
The funeral service of the activist will take place at Bryanston Methodist Church on Friday, 29 September.
Zoleka, who was the granddaughter of Nelson and Winnie Mandela leaves behind her four children.
