‘Good riddance’: Is Euphonik celebrating Zoleka Mandela’s passing?

Musician Themba Nkosi (fondly known as Euphonik) has caused a stir on social media after his cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after it was announced that Zoleka Mandela had passed away.

FAMILY ANNOUNCES ZOLEKA MANDELA’S PASSING
A statement released by the Mandela family on Tuesday, 26 September, revealed that the When Hope Whispers author lost her cancer battle the day before.

“On monday, September 18th. Zoleka Mandela was admitted into hospital for ongoing treatment for metastatic cancer to the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain and spinal cord.

“Recent scans revealed significant disease progression Including fibrosis in the lungs as well as several emboli.

“Zoleka passed away on the evening of Monday, September 25th. surrounded by friends and family. Our sincerest gratitude to the medical team that took care of her,” read the statement.

Zoleka – who is the granddaughter of late South African former president, Nelson Mandela, and ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela Mandela – revealed in August last year that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

She was previously diagnosed with and beat breast cancer twice.

EUPHONIK’S CRYPTIC POST
While tributes and messages of condolences continue to poured in, a post by Euphonik has riled up X users.

In the cryptic post, the DJ wrote: “God fetching okes in their numbers! Good Riddance.”

WHY THE DJ IS SAID TO BE CELEBRATING
Netizens have speculated that Euphonik’s post is linked to the rape allegations levelled against him and his friend DJ Fresh by popular X user and activist Nampree – real name Siphelele Madikizela.

In January 2021, Nampree accused DJ Fresh and Euphonik of having drugged and raped her after a night out more than 10 years ago.

In September 2021, the SowetanLIVE reported that the case had been dropped due to insufficient evidence. The police had reopened the case in 2022, but it was dropped months later “as the office of the director of public prosecutions returned the docket to the police and declined to prosecute.”

It is alleged that Zoleka is related to Nampree and the late writer is one of the many anti-abuse activists who have shown the alleged victim support.
