The latest figures from the Television Audience Measurement (TAM) by the Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA) reveal that Skeem Saam remains the second-most-watched soapie on SABC1 after Uzalo with over 5 million viewers.BRCSA July 2023 figures also reveal that the educational soapie Skeem Saam, which scored 5 007 032 million viewers needed about 380 000 viewers to dethrone Uzalo on SABC1.
The Durban-based soapie is still the most-watched soapie in South Africa with 5 388 373 million viewers followed by e.tv’s soapie Scandal with 5 036 317 million viewers.
The July viewing figures also reveal that e.tv’s House of Zwide took fourth place after scoring 4.4 million viewers and has dethroned Generations: The Legacy, which received 4.1 million.
Popular drama series Shaka Ilembe remains the most-watched show on DStv with 828 000 viewers while Umkhokha: The Curse is now the most-watched telenovela on DStv with 741 000 viewers.Soapie fans took to Jabulani Macdonald’s Twitter on Wednesday to congratulate Skeem Saam for hitting the 5 million mark and to praise actor Hungani, who joined the show in July to portray the character of Tbose Maputla.
