A South African television actor Khumbulani “Kay” Sibiya revealed his new career as a club DJ. The actor said he got into this industry while he was away from his family so he kept himself busy by mixing sounds until he really fell in love with the industry of mixing music.
Kay Sibiya rose to fame in the South African television industry when he first appeared on the SABC 1 music show Soul Sundays alongside Ayanda Mpama, after appearing in that show he never looked back as he played the leading role on the SABC 1 telenovela Uzalo where he played the role of Ayanda Mdletshe. Sibiya also had a stint on South African leading television soap Generations The Legacy. He was last seen playing the role of Nkululeko Bhengu in the etv axed telenovela Imbewu on e.tv.
Kay said he started DJing in September last year when he was still with Imbewu which was recorded in Durban. “I was far away from my family in Johannesburg and I used music as a therapy. if I finished recording early, I would go back to practice,” said Kay. He went on to say that he saw and fell in love with the DJ Judie Kama. “He started playing in 2019 and I saw that he was making good money and that gave me courage. I remember he made a round to celebrate his birthday and the money he brought back scared me because it was equal to my salary before tax was deducted,” he said.
He said music is something he grew up loving and is currently still growing in this field. What makes him happy is that in the places where he plays, some people don’t believe that he is playing but they cheer for him. He said he did not enter this industry because he left acting, but he is breastfeeding twins. He said he is recording something that he is not allowed to talk about but people will see and hear it soon.
“The industry we are in moves with the times. There is always something bigger and better coming after you. If you look at Generations, Isibaya followed Uzalo, The River, Gomora and The Wife. there will always be new talent and that you must not change. Now it is known that Kay will not only hire him as someone who will show his face at the event and that’s it. You can hire him as a host or DJ. That gives me more opportunities to work.” said Kay Sibiya.
