Popular comedian has passed away

A popular Eastern Cape comedian, Siphelele Qoqoshe, has sadly passed away.

The 28-year-old, who had over 30,000 followers on social media, was found dead at his home in Tyarha in Xesi on Tuesday.

His death comes just days after he celebrated his birthday on May 31 and weeks after the passing of his sister.

Taking to social media, fellow comedians and fans paid tribute to Qoqoshe.

Umhlobo Wenene broadcaster Mafa Bavuma first met the young comedian at a comedy event in East London earlier this year.

“We were having a roast session,” Bavuma said.

Bavuma said he knew all the comedians, except Qoqoshe.

“He surprised us and ever since that day Reggie, who was the MC, and I became admirers of him. It is a great loss for the province, especially during a time when comedy is growing.”

Bavuma said Qoqoshe, who spoke openly about his challenges with depression and anxiety, had a social media presence and used comedy to entertain and help people to fight their own battles.

“Through his comedy so many people have found healing.”

He added it was heartbreaking to know that someone who brought laughter to society was facing his own challenges.

“It’s so hard for us because we have to show a brave face, but we are fighting our own battles.”

His cousin, Zamacirha Ndinisa, said there was never a dull moment with Qoqoshe around.
