Last week, Kelly Khumalo’s sister Zandile Khumalo-Gumede, the fifth witness in the trial of Senzo Meyiwa testified at the high court in Pretoria against the five men who are accused of murdering the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and she identified one of the accused, Bongani Tanzi, as one of the men who stormed into their home on that fateful night.
This week, it has emerged that Senzo Meyiwa’s grieving family in KZN is impressed with Zandile Khumalo-Gumede’s court statements.
What’s the story?
On Monday, one of the leading publications in South Africa reported that the Meyiwa’s family spokesman Sifiso Meyiwa believes that Zandile’s inconsistent court statements will bring the court closer to the truth.
“We’ve been patiently waiting for this day and we’re glad it’s finally here. We’ve also noted the inconsistencies in her statements and that makes us happy. She is getting caught in her web of lies. Her version of events keep changing, depending on the platform she’s addressing”.
“In her media interviews, she maintained that she cannot identify the killers but in court she suddenly pointed out Senzo’s killer. Obviously, one of those versions or both versions are not true. She is gradually proving to be an untrustworthy witness”.
Your thoughts, please?
Do you think that there are too many inconsistencies in Zandile’s testimony who also revealed that Senzo Meyiwa’s wife Mandisa Mkhize allegedly assaulted her sister Kelly at the Botshelong Hospital after he was declared dead while Mthokozisi Twala revealed that the two were cordial, shared a hug and comforted each other?
