Somizi Buyani Mhlongo, age 50, was born in Soweto on December 23, 1972. Because his parents were also performers, he began his career at an early age. He abandoned his academic pursuits altogether in favor of a life in show business.

Somizi made his film acting debut in 1987’s Scavengers, at the tender age of 13. The next year, he landed a role in the musical and political film Sarafina!, playing the part of ‘Whacko.’ Fast forward five years.
