Getting married in 2008 was a big step for the pair. However, after poisoning allegations surfaced against Zuma in 2016, the NPA opted to press charges against her. She was allegedly involved in a plot to poison her husband in 2014. Her defense team argues she was unfairly charged. In recent years, Thobeka Madiba-Zuma has been actively pursuing a divorce. It’s said that she filed paperwork with the Pietermaritzburg High Court to end her traditional marriage to the former president. Their marriage began in 2010, and it ended in 2020 after she was allegedly banned from the Zuma compound for removing his mobile phone sim cards without his knowledge while he was receiving treatment in Cuba.
