The 2023 marula festival of King Misuzulu KaZwelithini was held this weekend in the northern Kwa-Zulu Natal province.

It is a festival held every year to revive the Zulu tradition. The royal palace where this festival is being held is situated along the eSwatini border with South Africa.

A regiment of Zulu women was also seen entering the arena at the marula festival at eMachobeni royal palace in northern KwaZulu-Natal. King Misuzulu KaZwelithini convened the annual festival.

Critics are however questioning what has King Misuzulu KaZwelithini done to the people in his province since the time that he was inaugurated. They said it does not make sense to waste money having these festivals, when many people are sleeping on empty stomachs.

“So how much has this royalty done for the millions of impoverished poor people in KZN? The billions that they receive in tax payers hard earned money. Royalty worldwide is a waste of tax money unless they make a positive financial difference to the fiscus and the poor.”
