Award-winning rapper AKA was shot dead on Durban’s Florida Road. He was standing in front of Wish’s restaurant with his close friend.
Just hours before his untimely death, he set up a Whatsapp hotline for his fans to get all the news regarding his upcoming album ‘Mass Country’.
He tweeted:
“As we launch MASS COUNTRY, we are looking forward to interacting with you all on our Ⓜ️EGACY ☎️ hotline… We will be doing video calls, chats, exclusive snippets and all the great stuff as we get closer to February 24th. I’ll chat with you soon!!!”
Below we trace his activities in the days before the tragedy. AKA is certainly in good spirits and is back in Durban. He hit the gym, he headed to Bryd and Groom for a new haircut, and DreamTeam member he bonded with Lusaso Ngcobo aka Saso.
He and his friends then drove to Wish, Florida, where the unfortunate incident took place.
“A prominent musician, aged 35, and [a man], believed to be 34, have been murdered. Two gunmen cross the street as the musician and [his friend] are leaving a restaurant. I walked and opened fire,” Colonel Robert Nesiunda, the state’s SAPS spokesman, told the IOL.
AKA was scheduled to perform at the Hugo Durban later that night, as part of his birthday celebrations. Police are currently investigating two murders and are looking for suspects. At the time of his death, AKA was dating his girlfriend Nadia Nakai, an award-winning rapper and reality TV star.
