Due to opposition from some residents, LERATO Mkhwanazi, 33, wanted to flee her home and was living in fear. Even more, people have joined a petition to evict her.
Community leaders in Barcelona, Etwatwa, met with Lerato and those who wanted her to go after the report about her was published. Lerato is grateful to Daily Sun today since it was because of her story that she was saved by leaders. Lerato found herself shaking hands with her neighbors last week to make amends despite having more than four protection orders against them. She said that until the People’s Paper stepped in, she could not live happily and freely in her house.
“I want to thank the People’s Paper for understanding how I felt. Although it was difficult for me, you helped me out,” she remarked.
“I will finally have inner peace and the confidence to remain in my parents’ house. I want to thank you for saving my life.”
Lerato maintained that she doesn’t destroy homes.
“I have a boyfriend of my own.”
Jacob Africa, the commander of the patrollers in Barcelona, expressed their satisfaction at the issue’s successful conclusion. One of the members of the panel that was invited to mediate in Lerato’s case was George Sukazi of Mokgoba’s Men Forum.
