Famous Gogo Manzini Passed Away, She Was In a Very Painful Way, Here is why

True to its reputation, death always takes the good and the kind, which is why it hurts so much more when it kills those we love most. Death is one of the most heinous events that can occur, as it permanently scars our souls and separates us from the ones we love. We have faith, though, because the Bible promises that one day death will be no more, that we will enjoy eternal life, and that our loved ones who have passed on will be resurrected. That’s the only reason we keep believing we’ll see our loved ones again.

After hearing of the passing of Pretoria’s own Gogo Manzini, a legendary sangoma, many South Africans have expressed shock and disbelief. Famous for her sassy dance routines, Gogo Manzini is a household name. She was one of the women that brought the life to the party; she was always neat and danced with abandon. She’s well-known as a dancer and a sangoma, so naturally she draws a lot of attention. You would never guess she is a sangoma, but she is one of the modern sangomas. She is a complete unknown in the Pretoria area.

Gogo Manzini’s passing was excruciating. She died in a way that will stay with me forever; I understand that we have no control over our own mortality, but it was nonetheless shocking. On Tuesday night, while she was leaving a party, she was shot in the face, and a video has gone viral showing her lying in a pool of blood. Neither the outcome nor the reasoning behind her death are made apparent.

It’s bad enough that people were filming her dead body in a pool of blood after she was shot, but it’s especially upsetting that they did so. As a result of the video’s virality, it has reached her family, which must have been a terrible shock. People’s focus has been diverted from reality as they document every accident for the sake of virality. Let me be blunt, South Africans: we can do better. God rest her soul.
