Kwaito singer Phumla Mvelase asks for help after struggling to pay rent for eight months

Christmas came right on time for maturing vocalist star Phumla Mvelase after her debilitated music profession got a lift. When she asked people on social media to help her pay her rent, she got the attention of Kwaito legend and activist Eugene Mthethwa. Mvelase owed thousands of Rands to her landlord for eight months’ rent.

A QUESTION FOR HELP

The question she posed was as follows: I hope all is well. I am in dire need of assistance. This year, I haven’t had any gigs and haven’t received any money. Due to a stroke, I lost my job in February. Right now, I’m staying alone. I’ve been renting for eight months and haven’t been able to pay my rent. I have nowhere to go and no family to turn to, so my landlord has asked me to leave. Please help me find gigs so I can find a place to live. Ngiyacela kakhulu ningincede is a request for assistance. I have been asked to leave on January 2nd. Right now, anything would be helpful. Please! please! I’m frantic.”

NO HANDOUTS

When Mthethwa learned of her predicament, he offered to assist her by signing her to SE Records. Phumla is profoundly gifted vocalist and a splendid lyricist. I offered her a gig to perform at my father’s thanksgiving on December 25 after she posted about her situation, asking for gigs rather than money. He stated, “I thought I hadn’t thanked my father while he was alive and as one of the founders of the International Assemblies of God.”

DRUGS AND SUICIDE

He went on to say that Mvelase will perform gospel music, including her brand-new single Hlala Nathi.

“It is my calling to assist people in my industry. “He stated that Phumi came out openly asking for gigs and honestly pleading for help due to her condition, which included having suffered a stroke and losing her day job.” Mthethwa also commended Mvelase for asking for assistance.

“Her modesty is admirable. She came out, in contrast to many others in the industry. People in our industry, who are dominated by pride, find this encouraging. Because they are unable to talk to anyone about their circumstances, many have ended up using drugs or taking their own lives when confronted with difficulties.
