‘Muvhango’ Actress Makgotso M Set The Record Straight About Her Race

Makgotso M has shared some of her difficulties in the industry due to people misinterpreting her race. Most of you know her as Onika on SABC 2’s Muvhango or Kamogelo on Isidingo. She has been in the industry for quite some time because back in 2014 she was casted for her first on screens role on My Perfect Family acting alongside Ayanda Thabethe. Taking to Twitter, Makgotso shared an interview were she delved into why she aligns with the Zulu and Pedi tribe. At the age of 11 she moved to the United Kingdom with her mother. During her high school days she decided to join a drama and dance class which subsequently led her to study Theater and Media Psychology. “I am able to speak Zulu more fluently because i was raised by a Zulu woman”.

Challenges in the industry

When audition for roles she has been told that she does not look African enough because her access in infused with the one from British. She also pointed out that a lot of industry colleagues and actors know about her origin because she is open about it. Her recent role was on Mzansi Magic’s series titled Is’thunzi were she played the role of Thishiwe.
