Emzini Wezinsizwa actors who are still alive
The show ended in August 2003 after three starring actors Mqwebu, Nkosi and Phele were fired for high salary demands and being “rebellious”. They were later replaced by Siyabonga Twala, Siphiwe Nkosi and Augustine Shitolo for the next season of 26 episodes which started on 15 December 2003. The new series was met with negative remarks. South African musician and notable viewer of the sitcom Jabu Khanyile made it clear that he preferred the original characters and that the new series was “nonsense”
It’s a pity that many of the cast members have already died, living others in fear of following them to the land of the dead. Jerry Phele, Vusi Thanda, and Jabulani Nkosi have watched their colleagues die one after another.
Here’s a list of Emzini Wezinsizwa actors who are still alive:
1. Jerry Phele – Mofokeng
The South African actor is popular for starring as Mofokeng in Emzini Wezinsizwa, an SABC1 sitcom (1994-2003). He has also made earlier appearances in other television serials and more ever since.
Jerry was born on 1 July 1956 in Free State, South Africa. The renowned actor boasts of over four decades in the entertainment industry. He started his profession in 1977 and has been active until date.
He’s good at making people laugh. Whether he’s playing Mofokeng on the popular 90s comedy, Emzini Wezinsizwa or as Morena on Skwizas, Innocent on Abo Mzala – he’s good with the punchlines and his performance is always memorable.
It all started in theatre in the 70s where Jerry Phele honed his craft. Then in the 90s he moved to the small-screen and has been leaving fans and viewers in stitches since then.
It’s hard to believe that Jerry didn’t intend to be in the industry for long. He initially thought it would be an experiment while he decided on what he really wanted to do after finishing school in 1976.

2. Vusi Thanda – Tshawe
Vusi Thanda (born 12 September 1963) is a South African actor, best known for his role in the SABC 1 Sitcom Emzini Wezinsizwa as Tshawe. Vusi Thanda is of a Xhosa background, he was born in South Africa. Vusi Thanda was nominated in the Wall of Fame in 2017.
Over the years one by one some members of the cast have been passed on because of various reasons. And only three of the main cast remain such as Vusi, Jerry Pele who played Mofokeng and Jabulani Nkosi portraying Chirwali.
Vusi who in recent times he has been portraying Mzoxolo on Mzansi Magic’s The Queen opened up to Skhumba and Ndumiso on Kaya FM’s Good Friday breakfast show during an interview that he was scared of dying.
“It’s scary. Every moment you hear ‘boom’ next to you, it’s like being in a war. You look and see a person you’ve been close with for years,” he said.
He confided that whenever he starts to get sick the feeling lingers and anxiety gets the better of him. Vusi Thanda is living in fear, and everytime when Emzini Wezinsizwa actor dies he’s scared to get sick even if it is glue. May God heal the Emzini Wezinsizwa family.

There are a few who have made the successful transition either from TV to a music career or vice versa, and Nkosi – of the top-rated SABC1 comedy Emzini Wezinsizwa.
He has been a regular fixture on the popular sitcom, playing Chirwali, one of the leads. That is until recently, as “contractual discrepancies” caused him to resign from his role. But fans should not despair as Chirwali can still be seen on the show for the remainder of this current season.
But even before his role on Emzini Wezinsizwa, Nkosi excelled as a theatre performer and TV actor, earning an FNB Vita Award nomination for his supporting role in the play Maru in 1995.
