Some social media users are upset that the Zulu Kingdom sent condolence messages to the British royal family over the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Some people say that they felt offended that the Zulu royal family is sympathizing with the royal family that forcefully colonized South Africa. Dimpho who particularly expressed surprised, said she never thought Zulu kingdom will send condolences to the British Royal family that colonized South Africa. She wrote, “So the Zulu Kingdom sent condolences to people that colonized us? Did I read that clear, or I missed something?”. Most Africans on social media too have been lambasting their presidents and leaders who send condolences to the British Royal family. However, it is expected of them because they are part of the Commonwealth Nations, of which the late Queen was the Head of State. The subject of condolences to the British Royal family is causing different reactions on social media.
You can also recall that a Nigerian lady and professor in the United States, named Uju, went viral after she wished the Queen an excruciating and painful death. This statement even made Jeff Bozes to condemn the tweet almost immediately, saying that such statement is uncalled-for and inhumane. Uju responded that what the British royal family and the British did to Africans just to force colonialism on them was also inhumane. Recall also that some Kenyans have decided to sue the British Royal house and the Britain as a country for the inhumane treatment against Kenyans during their fight for independence and the infamous mau mau uprising. The death of Queen Elizabeth II brought all these memories back and many Africans are complaining bitterly against the Royal family. Besides, some people are calling for the royal family to return the diamond on the Queen’s crown which was said to have been taken from South Africa.
