What do your favorite actors get paid to entertain you? We go on a road trip and check out how much various productions pay for essentially the same part. The plots of most Mzansi soaps are extremely similar to one another.
Due to the varying nature of the jobs available in different soaps, detectives tend to be darker and less common than other characters. Most of the time, they are serious and uncompromising in their work, but there are always exceptions.
Nebulane, who plays Daluxolo ‘Pele’ Malinga, is a well-known actor. As Detective Malinga, an undercover cop whose mission it was to uncover Jack Mabaso’s criminal dealings, he brought something new to Generation: The Legacy. The actor plays a good cop who is able to bring even the most dangerous criminals to justice in the movies. But he also manages to keep his professional and private life in harmony. He had previously failed to keep his first love, Tina, because he couldn’t properly balance the two.
The good news is that the super cop has a new girlfriend: Ayanda Majola (Samela Tyelbooi). It bothers him that Ayanda makes more money than he does. That’s how most guys feel about dating a woman who makes more money than they do.
The actor earned a Performers’ Diploma in Speech and Drama from the University of Cape Town. At AFDA, he also took a class on acting for the camera. Andile is fluent in Xhosa, English, Afrikaans, and Zulu. He currently resides in Cape Town.
Fans of Generations dislike him because he is too focused on solving crimes, but writers have given him a more nuanced character arc in recent seasons. Detective Malinga receives R75,000 for his part in Generations: The Legacy.
Detective Nyawo
Cebo Mthembu plays Detective Nyawo, the polar opposite of Malinga, on Uzalo. Uzalo’s detective Nyawo is a corrupt public servant who will take any bribe in exchange for keeping the peace. He is a fan favorite on Uzalo because he is a comic policeman known for throwing around a lot of cryptic English jargon and is an expert at leaking investigation information and vanishing police files.
Kwamashu Got Talent was a competition held not too long ago, with a prize of R50 000. Despite his tainted mental state, Detective Nyawo was the sole recipient of the reward money. Following his success in KwaMashu, Nyawo was invited to compete in the South African National Spelling Bee.
In addition to his salary as an Engineer at Eskom, Cebo Mthembu earns R31 000 per episode for his role as Detective Nyawo on Uzalo.
