On Thursday, May 19, DEBORAH Fraser’s life was commemorated with music at her memorial service.

At the ceremony conducted at the House of Treasure Ministries in Rispark, Joburg, fellow musicians Sipho Makhabane, Puleng March, Vicky Vilakazi, Kholeka, Omega Khunou, and Luyanda Ramatswi sang.

 
Deborah died on Sunday, May 15th, at the age of 57, following a brief illness.

“We are happy to have been by her side, like cheerleaders and supporters,” said Elouise Kelly, CEO of Universal Music.

Chicco Twala, a producer, expressed his admiration for Deborah’s children Aaliyah and Nkosana, and described how he met Deborah.

She always wanted to create a solo album when I met her in the late 1980s, and it took me a long time to give her the chance. I went to Universal when she teamed up with Brenda Fassie and told them I wanted to release her and that she needed to start making money. She doesn’t deserve to be a backup vocalist, in my opinion.”

Twala slammed the government, claiming Deborah required financial aid but received none.

On Saturday, May 21, the singer will be laid to rest at Lalakahle Cemetery in Hillcrest, KZN.
