Dupped as the next big thing to ever happened on Mzansi’s small screens, Siyabonga Zubane was one of the most promising actors wowing Mzansi. However, he was reported dead on 1 May in the mix of things. Almost a week after his untimely death, the cause of his death remains unknown.

 

 

 

On the other hand, the rumor mill has it that the bubbly actor best known for his on-screen character on Gomora as Sdumo committed suicide. However, industry colleagues, friends, and family filled the Johanessburg Theatre in Braamfontein as they paid homage and honor to the bubbly late actor. He was undoubtedly given a befitting farewell in honor of his contribution to the small screens.

Several big names in the entertainment industry honored the 23-year-old. His mother, Thobile Zubane, spoke in true pain and expressed how the untimely death of her son saddened her.

It has since been confirmed that the Gomora sensation will be laid to rest on 15 May, and his funeral service will take place at the Klipfontein Community Hall. In tears, Thobile Zubane revealed that

“It is painful. Siyabonga was a respectful person, family-oriented and supportive. We will forever remember him,”

Multi-award-winning actress and producer of Gomora Lulu Hela also spoke about Siyabonga weeping on behalf of the show’s whole cast.

“To know Siyabonga was to love Siyabonga. He was just one of those people. Anyone who knew him loved him. It is still very strange to speak about him in the past tense,” she said.

However, Lulu also let the cat out of the bag when she revealed that Gomora’s casting directors and producers met the actor in 2015 when he auditioned to be on the show.

Although he did not match the suitable character in the subject, he made enough impression that they still wanted him to be part of the show, and thankfully, his character, Sdumo, was conceived. It was a short-term character, but he breathed life into it and had the writers have to expand its storyline. Connie Chiume, who’s also cast on Gomora as MamSonto, spoke at the memorial service. The actress said,

“It’s difficult to stand here and speak about a young talent, a young creative… a child we were all still looking forward to watching.”
