Advocate Gerry Nel, the AfriForum legal head earlier this week weighed in on the issue of songstress Kelly Khumalo hiring respected a top advocate Magdalene Moonsamy to attend and represent her on a watching brief in the murder trial of her boyfriend, Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.
“May I use you [journalist] as an example? If you have nothing to fear in a trial and you are not implicated, and or your rights will never be infringed in a trial, would you appoint somebody to look after your rights?
“For me, it is as easy as that”. Gerrie Nel said.
“Just ask yourself that question. If you do not fear that your rights might be involved in a trial, why would you appoint someone? That is all I can say really”. The advocate added.
Meyiwa was killed in what was described as botched robbery in her girlfriend’s home in Vosloorus. In the house when the alleged robbery took place he was with Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi, her sister Zandie, Zandie’s then boyfriend Longwe Twala, Meyiwa’s two friends Tumelo Madlala and Mthokozisi Thwala.
Who shot Senzo Meyiwa? The five men accused are claiming that they are used as scapegoats to protect the real mastermind behind the murder.
