KwaZulu-Natal artists have expressed their grief over the death of their colleague Mlungisi “Waya Double Seven” Mbhele, who was ill.
Waya (39), from Umlaza, died at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Umlaza on Wednesday morning after being hospitalized for two weeks.
A family spokesperson, Xolani Gamede, said that although they were in a state of shock, he was ill in front of them and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“He was very helpful to the family and we were still looking forward to him. He used to sing and play in the theater. We hoped he would eventually succeed as he had hoped, ”said Xolani.
He described Waya as someone who loved his family.
“he was stubborn but not bad, he wanted to keep him. You could not oppose him. ”
He said he left behind two children, his mother, his brother, his sisters and nieces. He said the family would meet to finalize funeral arrangements.
Maskandi Artist Zibokwakhe “Phuzekhemisi” Mnyandu once performed a song called Ubuhle Bakho , and it just ran out of words.
“Im shocked I loved him and I loved Mbele. I’m so sorry, I don’t know what to say. The family slept with the wound, God knows, ”he said.
His friend Lehlohonolo “Sir Lehlenzoh” Selela, who posted a picture of himself on Facebook, said he was kind.
“he was always there. His work stood out more than he did because he wrote songs for many like Mgarimbe and others. I also did three songs with him. There is another game in Mzansi Magic that he wrote. He was very kind. ”
Lehlenzoh, who has known the deceased for 24 years, said he was like his brother because they studied together and worked together.
The chairman of the KwaZulu-Natal Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa, Tzozo, said there was a problem that plagued their role in the artists’ movement.
“Soon Ricky Rick was gone. Congratulations to his family. The whole art industry needs prayer. We ask pastors, pastors and healers, to pray for us because it will be ruined. We do not know what to do. I remember Waya when we came together as artists or singing, he was very active. ”
Waya was an artist, a writer and an actor. He was one of the artists recording at KZN Music House when it was recently established. Among the songs he performed was Shabba in honor of footballer Siphiwe Tshabalala, for his goal in Bafana Bafana’s first match of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
He was a Vibe FM presenter where he presented a hip hop program and has also sung with the band Converse with DJ Black and Sniper
