The healthcare workers at Durban Gen hospital generate more drama than they save their patients’ lives. The hospital is riddled with one scandal after another, and this fortnight is no exception.
During nurse Phumeza’s (Tshidi Makitle) shift, she bumps into the Mthembu family holding their one-yearold son who won’t stop crying.
Suddenly Phumeza is concerned, she isn’t just worried because Siphosethu’s condition deteriorates, it’s far worse… Phumeza swapped Mrs Mthembu’s (Mbaliyelizwe Ngiba) dead newborn baby with her irresponsible cousin Zanele’s (Sylvia Shange) infant in 2021.
Tshidi explains that Phumeza was acting in good faith. Zanele has nine kids and she neglects them, forcing Phumeza to care for them. The Mthembus, on the contrary, were desperate to have kids. Phumeza wanted to give this good pair a chance at parenthood.
Now the Mthembus want answers for “their” son’s illness. It’s just a matter of time until the truth is revealed… and it will be horrible.
The doctors run tests on baby Mthembu and the results are alarming, explains Tshidi. They find that his DNA doesn’t match either of his parents. The Mthembus are confused because he is the baby they left the hospital with a year ago. They want to solve this mystery.
When Phumeza later witnesses the agony that the Mthembus are in, she confesses her hand the baby swap to the hospital’s superintend Nomalanga (Duduzile Ngcobo).
Phumeza is remorseful. While she’s in the process of owning up her mistake, Phumeza reveals that matron Nobuhle
(Zimphi Biyela) knew about the baby exchange, which complicates things more. Nomalanga tells the Mthembus right away and they’re furious about what’s taken place, seeking justice immediatel
