ANC Bigwig retires and will not run for re-election at the party elective conference, see why

This will not be the case for Gauteng Premier and ANC provincial chairperson David Makhura, who has stated that he will be hanging up his boots after his term ends.

David Makhura, a heavyweight in the African National Congress, has declared that he will not run for party chair at the party’s elective conference in June.

This means that, despite the fact that some ANC comrades would like to see him re-elected, he will no longer accept the nomination.

Mzwandile Masina, the former Ekurhuleni City mayor, and Panyaza Lesufi, the Gauteng MEC for Education, are rumored to be fighting for the position, as both had previously served on the Provincial Executive Committee.

Makhura’s decision not to run for re-election at the party’s elective conference in June comes as other party heavyweights prepare to run for second and third terms in office.

Stan Mathabatha, the Limpopo premier and ANC provincial chairperson, is one such comrade who is not eager to hand over power to others. He is running for a third term.

The ANC Sekhukhune region, which is rallying around Mathabatha, believes that the ANC Limpopo chairperson and Premier Stan Mathabatha has stabilized the province and should be given the chance to continue doing so.

Factional fights dating back to the 2017 Nasrec conference, where Cyril Ramaphosa was elected party leader, should be left in the past, according to Mathabatha, because factionalism would “destroy the movement of Oliver Tambo.”
