Meet the top Downs star whose mother attended SONA

In the PSL many footballers can boast about earning a six to seven digit salary but one of the known in the industry can also boast about having a mother who makes that much as a politician.

In South African football the private life of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana is well documented, like the fact that his mother Pinky Kekana currently serves as the Deputy Minister in Presidency in the cabinet of President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa.

As a key figure in the political arena, on Thursday the 55 year old Bela-Bela born Member of Parliament (MP) had the privilege of attending the State Of the Nation Address (SONA) which was held at the Cape Town City Hall. Earlier on the day Pinky Kekana’s son who plays professional football for a living took to his Instagram stories to flaunt his beautiful mother way before President Cyril Ramaphosa could address the nation.

From the shared picture Miss Pinky Kekana wore a silky pink dress with a touch of red and a waist-cinching belt. According to sources the eligent dress was designed by a Pretoria based fashion designer who is known as Kgothatso. To compliment her belt she also worn red designer heels which were a shade bit darker.


From Grant Kekana’s Instagram account it is evident that the two have a close bond as this is not the first time he has flaunted his mother on the popular platform. With a political career dating to 1999 Deputy Minister Pinky Kekana is one of many key figures in South Africa politics who had a different career way before she made the switch.

From findings before she decided to venture into the political arena she was employed as a secondary school teacher in her hometown province after having obtained her Bachelor of Arts qualification in Teaching and Training.
