Thuso Nokwanda Mbedu (born 8 July 1991) is a South African entertainer. She was designated for an International Emmy for her job in the telenovela Is’Thunzi. She showed up on the 2018 Forbes Africa 30 under 30 list.
In 2021, she featured in the Amazon Video limited series The Underground Railroad.
Mbedu was brought into the world at Midlands Medical Center in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal to a Zulu mother and a Xhosa and Lesotho father, which is reflected in her multicultural name.
She was brought up in the Pelham region by her Zulu grandma, who became her legal guardian after the death of both her folks at an early age.
Mbedu went to Pelham Primary School and then Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School. She proceeded to concentrate on Physical Theater and Performing Arts Management at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), graduating in 2013 with distinction.
The year earlier in 2012, she took a course the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City, US.
In late 2014, Mbedu played a little part in the second period of the Mzansi Magic soapie Isibaya, prior to handling her job as news coverage understudy and wild youngster Kitso on Scandal!. She then, at that point, had a visitor job as Kheti on the second period of the SABC 2 teen dramatization series Snake Park.

In September 2017 she was assigned for an International Emmy Award in the classification Best Performance by an Actress for her job as Winnie in Is’Thunzi[18] and was the main African to be selected that year.
Mbedu made her global presentation in the 2021 Amazon Video historical restricted series The Underground Railroad, in view of the novel of a similar name by Colson Whitehead and coordinated and chief delivered by Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins.
Mbedu acquired a Hollywood Critics Association Award for TV Breakout Star.
In April 2021, it was reported Mbedu would make her film debut opposite Viola Davis in The Woman King, an authentic epic film propelled by the genuine occasions that occurred in The Kingdom of Dahomey, perhaps the most remarkable territories of Africa in the eighteenth and nineteenth century.
