In the Maskandi community and in Mzansi as a whole, Khuzani Mpungose is a household name. The musician enjoys a large and devoted fanbase. Khuzani won the Song of the Year award for 2020 after getting nearly one million votes from Ukhozi FM listeners. Briefly.co.za examines the meteoric rise of the Nkandla man. On December 3, 1989, Khuzani was born in Nkandla, north of KwaZulu-Natal. Khuzani Nkosikhona Innocent Mpungose is his full name. Muziwephahla Mpungose and Sizakele Mpungose are the parents of Khuzani, who is the second kid of three.
As a youngster, Mpungose was deeply affected by the songs of Mtshengiseni Ngcwensa and Mgqumeni (Ibhova likadikadika) (Indidane). The muso decided to pursue a career in the Maskandi genre as a result of these influences. Mgumeni Khumalo, a Maskandi artist, died on December 19, 2009, when he was still working on his record. His record firm, Izingane Zoma Music, selected Khuzani, who was just 20 years old, to finish the album since his voice sounded like Mgqumeni’s. South African Traditional Music Awards recognized the album iSecret as the winner (SATMAs). Check out his photos below:
